Can the Tide Repeat?

If Alabama beats Florida today they will be the first team to become repeat SEC Champions since Tennessee did it in 1998. That would be an impressive feat as would being the only team to make consecutive appearances in the FBS Championship playoff.

So far everyone has handed the Tide the SEC Championship and are just waiting to see where they’ll be seeded in the playoff. As the guy on ESPN says “Not so fast my friend.” I know the Tide is a big favorite in this game and on paper they should win without too much difficulty, but stuff happens. There’s a slew of distractions this week.

Last week the Tide dispatched Auburn in a workman-like performance. It wasn’t an inspired performance, that was what you saw from the Auburn team, but still the Tide won. Today at 4PM Eastern you’ll see a very spirited performance from the Florida Gators. There will be no “dead fish” out there. Saban’s charges had better have their heads in the game or the Gators could make this game way too interesting.

There will be two keys to Alabama breaking this game open. The first will be getting some kind of passing game going against a good Florida secondary. The second will be getting Henry going against a very stout Florida run defense. If Alabama can check those off its to do list the rest should take care of itself.

The game will be close for a while. Florida will sell out to stop the run and will throw some wrinkles at the Tide defense it has not seen all year. Alabama will wear down the Florida defense and pull away in the fourth quarter.
