It’s a new week and the Crimson Tide is an underdog and that’s big news. Try not and lose too much sleep over it. I reckon those who decide these things have spent some time evaluating the Tide quarterbacks.

Well, I could spend a bunch of ones and zeros going off on the quarterbacks, but hey that’s not me I’m one of the 80%. The quarterback play hasn’t been stellar but you could say the same about other positions. The thing is with all the stuff that’s been written you’d think the Tide was 1-3 instead of 3-1. You’d think Ole Miss throttled them by six touchdowns instead of six points.

Will the game with Georgia determine Alabama’s season. Maybe, if the Tide wins they even their conference record. If not they are in a hole that they are unlikely to dig out of and make the playoff this year. The youth and inexperience on this team actually should point to better days ahead. As the young people gain experience the overall play of the team should improve. As the older inexperienced players gain more experience and confidence they should show improvement as well. At least that’s the Polly Anna way of looking at the situation.

This matchup is actually exactly what the doctor ordered. Georgia plays smash mouth football. Alabama has one of the best anti-smash mouth defenses around. So they should fare well in this game. It will be a matter of weathering the early storm. If the Alabama offense can get untracked early or at least move the ball and here’s the biggie, hang on to it, they should be alright.

This is an opportunity for both of these teams to move up in the big picture football discussion. That’s only going to happen for one of them. The other will have to lick their wounds and figure out what to do next.

For my part I think Alabama will prevail in this contest. The odds makers are giving Alabama points so take them. The Georgia quarterback has looked all world in the last few games. Will that continue and will Nick Chubb get 100 yards? Will Jake Coker inexplicably throw the ball to the wrong team? These questions will get answered on Saturday.

My guess is that two of the three things will happen. Alabama 30 UGA 24.
