Well, it had to happen eventually, I mean eventually the Big 10 had to catch up and Alabama’s defensive backfield would finally fail just one time too many. Plus Blake Sims just ran out of magic. Say what you will it was a good season. It was awful to go down that way to Ohio State. Honestly, they simply out played Alabama.
The Tide made too many mistakes and was inconsistent throughout the first half. Alabama’s defense failed them in the first half allowing OSU to get back into the game. The score went from 21-6 to 21-20 and Alabama never recovered. Each time Alabama made a run OSU answered and in the end OSU did what the Big 10 has been trying to do for a decade get the SEC monkey off their back.
It’s not the end of the world or the end of Saban’s and Alabama’s football prowess. The Tide beat Auburn and that will help make the summer better. Given the glaring weakness of the Alabama secondary beating Oregon would have been a challenge.
It was a gallant effort and Sims last pass came tantalizing close to being caught. Unfortunately like most things on January 1 in New Orleans for Alabama it was just not meant to be.
