2014 Alabama v. Auburn
I don’t know about you but I’m pretty sick of hearing about the ending of last year’s game as being one of the greatest finishes in college football history. It wasn’t for me. It was an amazing let down to what had been a very promising season.
If you hate that play I’d stay away from the TV until they finally kick off. ESPN will probably show it 100 times today – CBS will show during the Egg Bowl. It will be everywhere. My favorite Iron Bowl Alabama 49 Auburn 0. Seven drives seven touchdowns. I liked that.
I like it when the Tide wins big. I’m funny that way. I listened to the Punt Bama Punt game on the radio with my Auburn fan cousin. After the first one somehow you knew they were going to do it again and they did. It was one of those thing where you got a really sick feeling in the pit of your stomach and it didn’t go away for a while. Didn’t like it.
I don’t even live in Alabama anymore and this game still moves me. I mean I have a pulse after all. My earliest memory of this game is about my parents talking about Alabama winning 55-0. That game happened in 1948 so I couldn’t remember it. I think they were all excited about the game that had just happened and were talking about that game. I drew a picture with the scoreboard reading 55-0.
I don’t think Alabama will win 55-0 today. That would be nice but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think what the Tide will have to do to day is weather the storm. It’s the Iron Bowl and Auburn will be fired up. They have a 7-2 record in Tuscaloosa and Saban’s record against them isn’t stellar 4-3 I think. He just can’t seem to get clamp on them.
This edition of the Auburn Tigers is not last years. They are still a very dangerous team. They can run the ball and they have all of their playmakers in the passing game available. They can and probably will score some points. Their defense has been not so good. Last year their defense was also not so good, but it found a way. This year the Tide finds a way to prevail. Usually the better team wins this game. For all of its flaws Alabama is a better team this year than Auburn. My guess Alabama 35 Auburn 24.
