At Home Again

For the last two week’s Alabama offense has been missing in action. If it doesn't show up today, it could be a long and not pretty day at Bryant-Denny. This game will decide if Alabama is still in the running for a playoff berth or just an also ran.

Late October does seem early to be making those sorts of statements but this year it’s a fact. Alabama cannot absorb another loss and make it to the big dance. Saban has been on a tear for two weeks now and it’s time for his team to put up or shut up. The eternal optimist that I am feels that the team that never quite found its identity will pull it together this week against A&M. It simply has to do that.

The glass half empty kind of guy figures well these boys are in a tail spin and the airplane is headed for the mountain. The offense has been inept. Special teams have been a train wreck and the defense has been, well honestly, not too bad, save a stinky quarter in Oxford. So what gives?

The offense hasn’t really been that far off. Teams have figured out that little bubble screen and Blake Sims hasn’t quite figured out that he has a bunch of players who can catch the ball and run. I suspect we’ll see it spread around today. The offensive line has missed blocks or not held blocks and the running game has spluttered. To be honest both Ole Miss and Arkansas have good run defenses.

It seems that the Tide has been close. The problem is that the play of the quarterback has not been the same that we have seen in the last three years. Sims simply doesn’t have the experience of AJ McCarron. At this point he has six games under his belt. He’s playing in the friendly confines of Bryant-Denny. It’s time to get it together.

Will he? I’m going to say he will. I think he will, I hope he will. For the sake of the season this team needs to get it together. I think the Tide will shake of its lethargy and save the season for another week. My best guess Alabama 45 Texas A&M 31.
