Happy

How do you feel after the Tide beat the Razorbacks in Fayetteville? Well, the answer should be that you’re happy. The alternative is two losses and that’s bad. It wasn’t pretty but the Tide did win.

A couple of things happened in Fayetteville and one of them was good. Blake Sims demonstrated that he was starting his sixth game and the second one on the road. He got a little rattled and it was quite apparent that Arkansas had game planned for him. It worked pretty well. The Tide only scored 14 points. Fortunately, that’s one more point than Arkansas scored. No matter what, no matter how many yards you have, how many penalties or how good your band is the team with the most points wins.

The other thing that happened is that some light came on for the Alabama defense. They played a pretty darn good game at Ole Miss. Yeah, they allowed them to come back, but most of that was on a freshman corner. The defense won the game in Fayetteville by not letting it get out of hand. I mean honestly, it could have been 14 zip early in the first quarter.

No, they didn’t look like Baylor and no, they didn’t look like Auburn and yes at times they looked sloppy and dysfunctional. But in the end they won the game. That counts in the most important stat sheet. At the risk of sounding like the Nicktator, the rest is just noise. I will admit that I was cursing them and after Arkansas went up 13-7 I thought it was over.

However, in the bright light of day with a clear mind, it was crystal clear that they won the game. They still have all sorts of chances to get where they want to be. There are only two undefeated teams in the SEC and it seems highly unlikely that there will be any playing for the championship in Atlanta.

As Spencer Hall of SB Nation put it so eloquently on Sunday. “Alabama, which will probably still ruin everything, because that is what Nick Saban does to everything fun in this world.” I’m not sure what that last part means but I kinda like it especially if that has to do with Alabama forcing its will on the college football world.

Hey, come get happy or if you prefer the Rolling Stones to the Partridge Family Baby, baby keep me happy! It ain’t over until it’s over.
