Southern Mississippi

I can’t remember the last time Alabama was a 48 point favorite. I’m sure it was when we played somebody like Chattanooga. It’s honestly sad that the Tide is a 48 point favorite over Southern Mississippi.

There was a time when USM was a team that nobody wanted to play. They were the kind of team that on any given Saturday could knock off a big name opponent. They were the team that broke Alabama’s home winning streak. They beat FSU and others. For a awhile Ole Miss and Mississippi State would not play them. In short, it was a very good program. Jeff Bower coached those USM teams after 17 years he was forced to resign in 2007 and the program has gone backwards since then.

As I say that’s a sad thing. One wonders why ESPN has chosen to put this game on ESPN2. Not that I’m complaining, it’s just that well if it’s like last week it will be like watching a scrimmage; so that’s probably the way to look at this. It’s an opportunity to see the Tide execute some of its offense and to see the two quarterbacks get some reps and learn some new numbers.

It’s one of those sort of lose-lose games. If Alabama doesn’t trounce these guys they’ll plummet in the poles and the nay-sayers will have a field day. Somebody could get hurt or worst case USM shows up and the Tide players don’t because they have been reading on the internet that they are going to whip these guys and USM wins the game.

My guess Alabama 45 USM 3.
