University of Florida—Gators

The Gators stunk up the joint last year and the UF Nation was unhappy. This is a huge season for them and Will Muschamp. They have got to get this thing fixed or there’ll be even more changes in Gainesville.

Honestly, this game is where the rubber meets the road for the Crimson Tide 2014 campaign. With all due respect to our first three opponents Florida is the best of the bunch and they too will have feasted on Idaho, Eastern Michigan and Kentucky when they roll into T-Town.

Why UF does not have a quarterback is beyond me. They are in Florida, a state that usually produce its fair share of football talent and yet the Gators were simply without an effective quarterback last year. They have pretty much been without one since Tebow went to the NFL.

The critical thing for the Gators will be for Jeff Driskell to convert Kurt Roper's up tempo system into some more wins. Can he do that? Muschamp thinks so – he seems to be betting the farm on that. So I reckon we’ll see. When all else fails go up tempo!

While the offense was anemic the Gator defense was on fire. They held their own in the SEC ranking third in scoring defense; first in passing defense; second in rushing defense and second total defense. It’s not that they couldn’t stop teams they simply could move the ball on offense and when they did they couldn't hold on to it. They ranked a dismal twelfth in turnover margin.

In order to get back to where they were, that is in the pecking order of the SEC, Florida has to generate some offense. Muschamp must find a way to make quarterback Jeff Driskell effective, while keeping last year’s potent defense on top of its game.

The defense should remain sharp. The offense might take a while to gel, though as noted earlier by the time they get to Tuscaloosa they will have notched three games. The Gators will make this one interesting but they still will not have enough offense to topple the Tide.
