A Look Ahead Final Edition

This is last installment in Uncle Fox’s look ahead at the Bama football 2010. These are the kinda of things people pull out and wave at you in December and ask what were you thinking? Well here goes and I guess we’ll see.

The Tide rolls into Baton Rouge in what is sure to be an ESPN night game. Unless the Bayou Bengals just melt down, this puppy will be on the tube. LSU is not getting a lot of love from the media and as a fringe member I don’t think I’m gonna give them much either. By the time this game rolls around much will have been decided and only the strong will remain. I honestly think Alabama is better than LSU. They will be pumped to play us. They don’t like us. Their fans hate Nick Saban and somehow blame us for his leaving. They truly want him to fail. The hat will be ready and the joint will be jumpin’ but it won’t matter. Alabama’s front seven will harass Jordan Jefferson all night, forcing him into mistakes, which will cause turnovers. Those will be the key.

Alabama 21 LSU 17

I think I have gone on record a number of times saying I really hate playing Mississippi State. It’s a no win situation. They have always played us tough and many times they have made games into a nail bitters. This year they just don’t have what it takes to run with the Tide. Even an off week won’t help. They will be strong the first half and then the Tide’s running game and defense will simply wear them down. Again, turnovers will key the victory. Unlike LSU, the turnovers will lead to lots of points. This one is at home and it is in the stretch run leading to Auburn. The Tide will not take them lightly.

Alabama 35 Mississippi State 13

This is one of those games that really should never have been scheduled. The only storyline is Bill Curry returns to Tuscaloosa. That’s yesterday’s news he came back with Kentucky. This one could get really ugly. It could be name that score. Look to see lots of second team play, maybe even some walk ons. Honestly, they should pull the starters in the first quarter. I really hope it’s not on TV. No matter what, no good can come of it. If we score 70 points it will look like we ran it up. If it’s close we look bad, real bad.

Alabama 49 Georgia State 3

The last in a long line of teams roar into T-town following a bye week. Woo hoo I say. Bring on the Tigers. Last year the Tigers came tantalizingly close to spoiling a perfect season. They ran some trick plays and you really just had to admire how well they were carried out. One of those touchdowns was a thing of beauty. The question is in my mind is Chizik really the answer? Or did he just get players that quit on Tuberville to play for him? I reckon we’ll see this year. There will be no surprises and the game will be in Tuscaloosa, where until just recently we had never beaten Auburn. In the world of Crimson Tide football the phrase until recently is applicable a lot lately and that’s a good thing. I think the Tigers are a good football team, they may be the second best football team in the SEC West, but they are not the best. Rivalry game, really tough first half – look for the Tide to prevail.

Alabama 35 Auburn 21

Now I know that I have us running through the schedule unscathed. In my heart of hearts I just really fear that will not happen. On paper I think we are the best team in the conference, but they generally don’t play these things on paper. Since Saban got here the Tide has been very lucky with injuries. That could change, they rode out Hightower last year, but something worse could happen this year.

The Tide is looking at a pretty brutal schedule. Then there is the bonus extra of seven teams with a bye weeks before they play us. It just seems too tough to handle. It could happen, nobody thinks it will, but it could. I think it might. No one has won back to back national championships since USC did it in 2003-2004 and one of those was a split championship with Saban’s LSU team.

Shoot it’s about time somebody did it again, it might as well be us!
