June 01, 2010Don’t cry no tearsThere’s a Neil Young song that has a line in the chorus that goes “Don’t cry no tears around me.” When I read what Charlotte Morgan said after the final game of the super regional that line just came to me.If you don’t know Charlotte Morgan you just don’t know Alabama softball. She has been the face and the heartbeat of the team for the last two years. She has all the heart you could ask for, she has the attitude of a linebacker and she always brought her A game and she cared. She cared for her team, her school and her teammates. Charlotte is one stand up girl. I never met her. I saw her play in person only once. That’s my loss. She is the only starter the softball team will lose next year. But, she was the leader on a team that had no business getting as far as they did this year. This team had seven, count them, seven new starters and they were one out away from the world series. It’s a crying shame that Charlotte couldn’t finish up her career with a national championship ring. She got a SEC ring and was the SEC player of the year for the last two years. That’s some good stuff. It’s not what she or the team was hoping for, but stuff happens, as a friend of mine once said sometimes bad things happen to good people. Well, it did and that’s really a shame. I know she was disappointed when they lost the last game to Hawai’i. But, she kept her game face on and said no regrets. We did our best. Charlotte we are going to miss you. We really, really are, all of us, everybody who cares about the Crimson Tide, you are a role model. Not just for little girls learning to play softball but for middle aged guys who love to watch it. Thanks kiddo, thanks for giving your all. Roll Tide Fox
