February 03, 2010Take a deep breathThat’s right, OK exhale. Take another one let that one out too. Good, good you’re doing fine now, one more, inhale, exhale great, feeling better, good. So Alabama didn’t win the mythical national recruiting championship. It’s OK. Pull that commemorative sports section out and look at the headline “Tide Wins BCS Championship.” That one’s real.Recruiting is what it is. We have known for a couple of months that we weren’t going to come in number one. I know, the bad part is in some circles we came in behind Auburn. That’s OK too. You see this way those Auburn guys can rant and rave about how good their class was and how they whipped us and what not. That’s when you remind them oh yeah that’s right yall won the Outback Bowl. What was it we won oh yes IT WAS THE BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. This is a weird time of year. At least it is for me. I sort of keep up with the recruiting stuff, well I keep up with it more than I keep up with basketball. But all in all, it sounds like we got a bunch of pretty good football players, it sounds like on paper Texas and Florida and some others might have gotten a couple that were better. If you look back over the last five years, I suspect those same people got better players, on paper, than we did every year, except 2008 and 2009. It will be OK by the time kickoff comes in September you’ll have forgotten all about this, trust me. So what do you think about Nick’s statue? Well, come on they left a spot for one right there in front of the stadium, did you think they’d wait until he left or retired? Think about this. When they bring those high school boys down to T-town they show them the training room, the practice field. They show them the dorm and campus and let them eat a football player meal. Then at some point they take them to Bryant-Denny and they walk around and go inside. You reckon they might show them the statue? Why’s that there? The prospective player might ask.* It’s there because Coach Saban won Alabama’s 13th National Championship. The guide might reply. Now we can’t put up any more statues but we can sure win some more championships! *Most likely only if the prospective player is from, oh I don’t know Canada, would they not actually know about the statue but you get my point. Let’s talk about basketball, what you say let’s not. Well, somehow I feel like I should, though for the life of me I can’t figure out why. Well, I honestly think the women’s team is better than it has been. I have been looking at the scores and it seems like before we were losing by 30 and 40 points and now we are only losing by ten or less. That doesn’t count the LSU game, but I guess that was an exception and they’ll get better yet. The men’s team has been up and down. Those folks that know basketball say that’s to be expected. I guess that’s true Coach Grant doesn’t have his players in yet and some of the one’s he has probably all haven’t bought what he’s selling. I suspect it will come. Chances are it won’t be this year. It would be nice to not lose to Auburn all the time, especially since they are really, really bad this year. Oh well. We’ll, let that lay there and move on. As far as the gymnastics go it would seem Georgia is toast. Auburn beat them recently, I wonder when the last time they lost to Alabama and Auburn in the same year was? This could be Alabama’s year. I get the feeling that Sarah Patterson and those girls are loaded for bear and they’re just getting warmed up. I’ll bet they’ll be better by spring. Roll Tide Fox
